PRODUCTION AND QUALITY OF SORGHUM SILAGE INTERCROPPED WITH MARANDU GRASS AND PIGEONPEA

Lack of forage in the winter dry season is a concern for cattle production tropical Brazil. Pasture renovation with silage might solve an immediate and help develop improved pasture condition after cropping. The present study was focused to compare quality monocropped sorghum intercropped Marandu grass and/or pigeonpea two row spacings. experiment carried out on sandy Oxisol São Paulo state Brazil experimental design 2 x 4 factorial arrangement four replications. Treatments were: sorghum, Urochloa brizantha, Cajanus cajan (cv. BRS Mandarim), Urochloa+ 0.45 0.90 m Greatest 0.45-m spacing dual-species intercropping. With 0.90-m spacing, greatest Sorghum+Urochloa. Sorghum+Urochloa+Cajanus intercropping provided highest concentrations crude protein silage, regardless spacing. An increase ensiling time reduced due decline TDN fibers. However, between lines inclusion legumes resulted greater amount higher concentration protein.
